MISSION
The West Slope Photojournalism workshop seeks to teach young people of the North Fork Valley the fundamental skills of photography and journalism.
Through a combination of lectures, roundtable discussion, and photography excursions, WSPJ encourages participants to reflect critically on their experiences and create visual stories that are true to their unique perspectives. In doing so, participants address a fundamental question of modern journalism: “who controls the narrative of our community?”
We strive for participants to feel that their voices are valuable, allowing them to situate themselves in this complex modern world.
VISION
Like many rural areas, the North Fork Valley lacks access to certain professional development opportunities. To address this, WSPJ seeks to provide hands-on experience and foundational skills in photojournalism to young people in the area. Under the guidance of industry professionals, we intend to provide this curriculum for years to come.
The curriculum provides comprehensive photography and journalism instruction, professional connections, and skills using industry-standard equipment.
We continue to seek collaboration with community stakeholders and the support of photojournalists from around the country.
