The Western Slope Photojournalism Workshop started in the fall of 2020 at Paonia High School.

For six months, a class of 15 students explored basic concepts of journalistic and documentary photography. The curriculum was responsive to national news, including special sessions on the election and the insurrection at the capitol. Students built a personal project over the course of 5 months, and presented their work to the community in a gallery space at the end of the year.

“This workshop can open new paths in life for all of us... others heard about this and they really wanted to join in and participate in what sounded like a fun project that could teach all of about something that we did not know about in the beginning. I have loved this work shop.”
